Dedicated to Dr. Seuss (March 2, 1904) and
Eric Carle (June 25, 1929, but on March 20, 1969 the world first met The Very Hungry Caterpillar)
Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake Your Sillies Out.
Book: Not Last Night but the Night Before by Colin McNaughton illustrated by Emma Chichester Clark.
Song: Birthday Cake from Parachute Express: Sunny Side UP.
Book: A Birthday for Cow by Jan Thomas (we had the audience yell TURNIP whenever the word appeared in the story).
Poem: Eight Balloons from A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein (the first day we actually popped balloons, however this proved too traumatic so we used paper balloons and had the audience clap to “pop” the balloons with much calmer results).
Book: The Birthday Box by Leslie Patricelli.
Song: Hokey Pokey from Mickey's Party Songs.
Book: Brownie & Pearl Step Out by Cynthia Rylant pictures by Brian Biggs.
Final Activity: Party Games – “Hop on Pop”, Pin the bowtie on the “Cat in the Hat”, “Green Eggs and Ham” toss.
