Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out.
Book: Bear Wants More by Karma Wilson; illustrated by Jane Chapman.
Poem: A Bear Eats Honey.
A bear eats honey (pretend to eat)
He thinks it's yummy
In his tummy (rub tummy)
But the bees don't think it's funny
Buzzzzzzzzzzz! (make hand buzz around like a bee)
Book: Where’s My Teddy by Jez Alborough.
Story: The First Teddy Bear. We have a great flannel board version of
this story.
Activity/Story: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen & Helen
Oxenbury. We had the kids do the actions with us in place of reading the actual book. It was a lot of fun.
Book: Gotcha! by Gail Jorgensen; illustrated by Kerry Argent. Along with the book, we also used a bear puppet, fly swatter, and fly.
Rhyme: Five Bears in the Bed.
Five bears in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, I’m crowded.”
So they all rolled over, and one fell out.
Four bears in the bed, and the little one said,
“Roll over, I’m crowded.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
Three bears in the bed, and the little one said,
“Roll over, I’m crowded.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
Two bears in the bed, and the little one said,
“Roll over, I’m crowded.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
One bear in the bed, and the little one said,
“I’m lonely, come back.”
Book: How Joe the Bear and Sam the Mouse Got Together by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers; illustrated by Bernice Myers. We used puppets and pictures to tell this story on a magnetic chalkboard, in place of the actual book.
Activity/Song: Bear hats and song. We made bear hats for each of the kids
and then had them do the actions to the song, Teddy Bear Teddy Bear from the compact disc, Songs from the Cozy Cottage.
