Begin by singing Wiggles (We did this storytime outside so we didn't have a cd player and couldn't use our normal starting song).
Wiggles
melody: “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”
My fingers are starting to wiggle,
My fingers are starting to wiggle,
My fingers are starting to wiggle,
Wiggle all around.
(my hands, arms, head, are starting to wiggle, etc.)
My whole body’s starting to wiggle,
My whole body’s starting to wiggle,
My whole body’s starting to wiggle,
I guess I’ll just sit down.
Book: Sally and the Purple Socks by Lisze Bechtold.
Poem: Short Kid from Falling UP by Shel Silverstein.
Book: My Garden by Kevin Henkes.
Song: Once I Was a Baby
melody: “Once There Was a Snowman”
Once I was a baby, baby, baby,
Once I was a baby,
Small, small, small.
Now I’m getting bigger, bigger, bigger,
Now I’m getting bigger,
Tall, tall, tall.
Book: So Big! by Dan Yaccarino.
Activity: Growing Sunflower children. We all pretended to be little sunflower seeds, then with a little soil, a lot of sun, and a little rain (spray bottle) we all pretended to grow into great big sunflowers.
Book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
Craft: Growing gardens. The kids glued (“planted”) vegetables on a sheet of paper (the “garden”).
