Book: Hi, Harry! by Martin Waddell; illustrated by Barbara Firth.
Poem: Mr. Smeds and Mr. Spats from the Shel Silverstein book A Light in the Attic. (We have drawings of both men that can be used on a flannel board while telling this poem.)
Book: Swim! Swim! by James Proimos.
Song: A Bushel and a Peck, from the compact disc Junior’s Bedtime Songs.
Book: I’m the Best by Lucy Cousins.
Poem: The Little Boy and the Old Man, from the Shel Silverstein book A Light in the Attic. (We used an old man and a boy puppet to perform this very touching poem).
Book/Puppet Show: How Joe the Bear and Sam the Mouse Got Together by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers; illustrated by Bernice Myers. (We used puppets, magnetic pictures, and the magnetic chalk board to tell this story).
Song: Shake Hands with Friends from the compact disc Growing Up with Ella Jenkins. (While this song played, we walked around the room with two giant puppets, shaking hands with each child).
Final Activity: As part of A Week Without Violence, representatives from the YWCA gave the children bracelets, stickers, coloring pages, and balloons.
