Drawing, January 4th and 5th, 2012

Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out.

Book: Art by Patrick McDonnell.

Poem: Magical Eraser from the Shel Silverstein book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. We told this poem using a puppet, giant pencil, and dry erase board.

Book: I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! Karen Beaumont; illustrated by David Catrow.

Song: Put a Little Color on You (Extended Response Version) from the compact disc, Hap Palmer’s Can a Cherry Pie Wave Goodbye? We made die-cut circles of the four colors and gave one set to each child. The kids would put the colors on their different body parts in time with the song.

Book: I’m the Best Artist in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry. We used our squid and shark puppets to help read this book.

Book/Poem: Fast Draw Freddie by Bobbie Hamsa. We took turns holding up large paper drawings which corresponded with each line of the text.

Story: Monkey Face. We have a draw-and-tell version of this story, which we told using a dry erase board.

Song/Activity: The Drawing Song, from the Sesame Street compact disc, Elmo’s Favorite Sing-Alongs. We taped large pieces of butcher paper along the walls and let the kids draw with crayons while the music played. Very fun!
