Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out
Book – The Napping House by Audrey Word; illustrated by Don Wood.
Song – Five in the Bed.
Five in the bed
and the little one said,
"Roll over, roll over."
So they all rolled over
and one fell out.
Four in the bed
and the little one said...
Book – How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? by Jane Yolen; illustrated by Mark Teague.
Song / Puppet Show – Dance Myself to Sleep, from the compact disc, Sesame Street Dreamytime Songs. Patrick and I used Bert and Ernie puppets along with a couple of sheep for this song. It was fun!
Book – Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late by Mo Willems.
Poem – Sleeping Sardines, from the Shel Silverstein book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. I made some little sardine puppets in a can which can be used to tell this poem.
Book – Under the Bed! by David Wood and Richard Fowler.
Activity – “Everybody sleeps” matching activity. We used a magnet board and pictures of animals people and their bed and asked the kids who sleeps where? Example: "Does the baby sleep in the nest?" The kids had a good time shooting down our silly suggestions.
Activity – Counting sheep with Ernie. We used a big Ernie puppet (who couldn’t sleep) and gave each of the children sheep hats and had them jump over a fence. Ernie counted them while they jumped over the fence, eventually causing him to fall asleep. This activity was a bit chaotic, but it still looked like the kids were having fun.
