(Prior to storytime, we put a giant “P” on the front wall of the story room. Before reading each story, we introduced our next “P” word and taped it to the wall.)
Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out
Book: (PRINCE & PRINCESS) – Waking Beauty by Leah Wilcox.
Poem: (POEM, PUPPETS, PANDA, & POLAR BEAR) – I Like, from the
book, You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You. (We performed this poem with a panda and polar bear puppet.)
Book: (PRETTY) – Pretty Pru by Polly Dunbar.
Song: (PIRATES) – The Pirate Song, from the cd, H.U.M. All Year Long.
Book: (PIGEON) – Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems.
Song: (PEANUT BUTTER) – Peanut Butter: A Traditional Song by Robin Oz
Activity: (PETS) – We had a competitive pet show-and-tell. For every “pet” I
showed the kids, Patrick brought out a bigger and more impressive version. Sample pets included rubber duckies, plants, eggs (with the optional chicks), mice (puppets), lizards (puppets), a furry-footed leopard-spotted dinglehopper and a blue-bellied hopping zostrich, and zebras (in puppet and mannequin form). Once again this was a hit.
Book: (PAINT) – I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont.
Activity: (PUPPIES, PARACHUTE, & POPCORN) – We let the children play
with mini puppies on the parachute while we listened to “Popcorn,” from the cd Dance, Baby, Dance!
