Things That Start with F, February 10th and 11th, 2010

(Prior to storytime, we put a giant “F” on the front wall of the story room. Before reading each story, we introduced our next “F” words and taped them to the wall.)

Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out

Book: (FOGGY & FOREST) The Foggy, Foggy Forest by Nick Sharratt

Song: (FLY & FEATHERS) A Fly is on Your Nose (We gave each child a feather
which they pretended was a fly, and had it land on different parts of their body while we sang the song.)

Poem: (FOOD) Baloney! from Never Take a Pig to Lunch: and other poems about the
fun of eating. (We used a boy puppet, two slices of foam bread, a slice of felt bologna, and a lunch box to recite this poem.)

Book: (FERGUS, FRIENDS) Good Boy, Fergus! by David Shannon

Song: (FEELINGS) If You’re Happy and You Know It from the compact disc, Get Ready, Get Set, Sing! Songs for early childhood and ESL. (This is a good version of the song as it goes through various emotions such as being happy, sad, angry, sleepy, hungry, etc.)

Book: (FROG & FIT) Big Frog Can’t Fit In: A Pop Out Book by Mo Willems

Song: (FARM) Old MacDonald Had a Farm. (We used a farmer puppet along a
few animals to sing this song.)

Story: (FISH & FUNNY) The Big Fish by Phyllis Root; illustrated by James Croft.
(We used paper cut-outs which can be used on the magnetic chalkboard in place of the actual book.)

Story/Puppet Show: (FALLING, FAIRYTALE, & FINALE) Falling for Rapunzel by Leah Wilcox; illustrated by Lydia Monks. (We did this as a puppet show in Storytime).
