Eric Carle, March 17th and 18th, 2010

Start by singing Raffi's Shake Your Sillies Out.

Book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
(pop-up version)

Poem: The Apple and the Worm
I bit an apple
That had a worm.
I swallowed the apple,
I swallowed the worm.
I felt it squiggle,
I felt it squirm.
I felt it wiggle,
I felt it turn.
It felt so slippery,
Slimy, scummy,
I felt it land – PLOP –
In my tummy!

I guess that worm is there to stay
Unless…
I swallow a bird some day!

Book: The Little Cloud by Eric Carle (we used the overhead projector)

Song: Baby BumbleBee
I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me,
(cup hands together as if holding a bee)

I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Ouch! It stung me!
(Shake hands as if just stung)

I’m squishing up a baby bumblebee,
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me,
(‘squish’ bee between palms of hands)

I’m squishing up a baby bumblebee,
Ooh! It’s yucky!
(Open up hands to look at ‘mess’)

I’m wiping off the baby bumblebee,
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me,
(wipe hands off on shirt)

I’m wiping off the baby bumblebee,
Now my mommy won’t be mad at me!
(hold hands up to show they are clean)

Activity: I’ll Plant a Little Seed
I’ll plant a little seed in the cold, cold ground (squat down, pretend to be a plant)
Out comes the yellow sun, big and round (put arms above head, like sun)
Down come the raindrops soft and slow (dancing fingers, like rain)
Up come the flowers grow, grow, grow! (jump as flower emerges)

Book: The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle (we used a plastic spider, fly and made a web as we told the story) .

Song: There’s a Spider on the Floor (used pom pom “spiders”)
from The Singable Songs Collection (Raffi)

Book: From Head to Toe by Eric Carle

by Paul and Robyn
