Things That Start with "A," April 7th and 8th, 2010

Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out.

Book: (ANIMALS & AUSTRALIA) – Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles; illustrated by Rod Clement.

Story: (ANT) Ant’s Picnic by Paul Musser. (We used pictures on a magnetic chalkboard to tell this story.)

Song: (AROUND) The Green Grass Grew All Around. We sang this song using a magnetic chalkboard and some home-made pictures.

Book: (ALICE) Alice the Fairy by David Shannon.

Activity: (ACTION, ADVENTURE, & ACTIVITY) Action Adventure School! We had the kids participate in various activities like swinging on a vine, getting trapped in a giant spider web, being shot out of a cannon, riding a rhino, driving a racecar, swimming through the ocean & wrestling a giant squid, walking on a tight rope, and being turned to stone.

Book/Song: (ART & AIN’T) I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont; illustrated by David Catrow.

Rhyme: (AIRPLANE) Airplane

The airplane has great big wings (arms outstretched)
Its propeller spins around and sings, “Vvvvvv!” (make one arm go round).
The airplane goes up (lift arms)
The airplane goes down (lower arms)
The airplane flies high (arms outstretched, turn body around)
Over the town!

Book: (AAAARRGGHH!) Aaaarrgghh! Spider! by Lydia Monks.

Song/Activity: (ALPHABET & AFRICA) Alphabet Song. We gave each child a letter from the alphabet and then proceeded to sing the alphabet song, after which we threw the letters on the parachute while we listened to the African Alphabet courtesy of Sesame Street.
