Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake
My Sillies Out.
Book: Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin;
illustrated by Harry Bliss.
Poem: Nobody Likes Me we told this poem using
gummy worms.
Story: Worm is Hot by Kathy Caple. We made
paper cut-outs, which can be used on a magnetic chalkboard in place of the
actual book.
Book: Donald and the . . . by Peter F.
Neumeyer & Edward Gorey. Because this book is so small we photocopied the
pictures onto transparencies and we told the story using our overhead
projector.
Song: The Littlest Worm.
Book: Worms for Lunch? by Leonid Gore.
Poem: The Apple and the Worm, we used an
apple/worm puppet to tell this poem.
I bit an
apple
That had a
worm.
I swallowed
the apple,
I swallowed
the worm.
I felt it
squiggle,
I felt it
squirm.
I felt it
wiggle,
I felt it
turn.
It felt so
slippery,
Slimy,
scummy,
I felt it
land – PLOP –
In my
tummy!
I guess
that worm is there to stay
Unless . .
. .
I swallow a
bird some day!
Story: Worm is Stuck by Kathy Caple, we made
paper cut-outs which can be used on a magnetic chalkboard in place of the
actual book.
Puppet Show: Can I Play Too? by Mo Willems. We
changed one of the characters from a snake into a worm and performed this story
using puppets.
Final Activity: Walter the Waltzing Worm, from Hap
Palmer’s cd, Walter the Waltzing Worm. We made some worms out of mini pom-poms
and fishing line which we passed out to the children so that they could sing
along with the song.
