Begin by Singing Raffi's Shake My Sillies Out
Book: Tiny Little Fly by Michael Rosen
Song: The Elephant
An elephant goes like this and that (sway body)
He's terribly big and terribly fat. (raise arms from sides)
He has no fingers. (wiggle fingers)
He has no toes. (point to toes and wiggle them)
But goodness gracious-
What a nose! (hold arms in front of face like a trunk)
(I did this rhyme with an elephant puppet)
Book: Whose Nose and Toes? by John Butler
(The kids loves this one! They had a lot of fun guessing which animal was on the next page)
Activity/Book: We're Going on a Lion Hunt adapted by Margery Cuyler
(We all stood up and acted out the journey to find the lion. By the end of it the kids were tired and ready to sit and listen)
Flannel Story: Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell
Book: Splendid Spotted Snake by Betty Ann Schwartz & Alexander Wilensky
Song: Monkey Dance by The Wiggles
Book: We've All Got Bellybuttons! by David Martin
Final Activity: I hung up colored pictures of all kinds of wild animals and gave the kids construction paper binoculars to go on a safari. I played Train at the Zoo from Doc Young's CD Train at the Zoo while they looked. Parents and kids had a lot of fun!
