Picnics, May 23rd and 24th, 2012

Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out.

Book: Bear Wants More by Karma Wilson; illustrated by Jane Chapman.

Rhyme: Five Little Hot Dogs. We have a glove puppet, which can be used with this fingerplay.

Book: The Pig’s Picnic by Keiko Kasza. We have pictures, which can be used on the magnetic chalkboard in place of the actual book.

Song: Going on a Picnic by Raffi.

Book: The Beastly Feast by Bruce Goldstone; illustrated by Blair Lent.

Poem: Yuck from Shel Silverstein’s book, Falling Up. We told this poem using puppets and props. Very funny.

Story: Ant’s Picnic. This story is told on the magnetic chalkboard. See Paul for this one.

Puppet Show: Peanut and Pearl’s Picnic Adventure by Rebecca Kai Dotlich adapted for Storytime by Deanna and Robyn. We performed this story with puppets, props, and the portable stage.

Activity: The Teddy Bear’s Picnic. We bounced mini teddy bears on the parachute while we listened to the song. Fewer bears is probably better simply because anything over five and the parachute gets too heavy for the kids to lift.
