Things That Start with "G," May 30th and 31st, 2012

At the beginning of storytime we put the letter “G” on the Story Room wall. Before reading each story, we introduced our next “G” words and taped them to the wall.

Begin by singing Raffi’s Shake My Sillies Out.

Giggle, Giggle, Quack by Doreen Cronin

Book: (GIGGLE) – Giggle, Giggle, Quack by Doreen Cronin; illustrated by Betsy Lewin.

Song: (GALUMPH) – Little Green Frog. We used puppets to sing this song. We
chose animals that either started with “G” or made a “G” sound.  See attached.)

Book: (GIRL, GATOR) – A Girl and Her Gator by Sean Bryan; illustrated by Tom
Murphy.

Song: (GREEN, GRASS, GREW) – The Green Grass Grew All Around. We have pictures, which can be used on the magnetic chalkboard while we sing this song.

Poem: (GHOST) – The Ghost and the Mouse, from the book You Read to Me, I’ll Read
to You: Very Short Scary Tales to Read Together by Mary Ann Hoberman. We used a ghost and mouse puppet to perform this poem.

Book: (GO, GREEN) – Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley.

Song: (GOBBLE) – The Turkey Hop, from the compact disc H.U.M. All Year Long.

Puppet Show: (GINGERBREAD) – The Gingerbread Man

Rhyme: (GOODBYE) – The Goodbye Rhyme.

                                    Our hands say thank you
                                    With a clap-clap-clap.
                                    Our feet say thank you
                                    With a tap-tap-tap.
                                    Clap-clap-clap!
                                    Tap-tap-tap!
                                    We roll our hands
                                    And wave goodbye!
